  EVERGREENS


Colorado Blue Spruce

Will reach 6′ in 8-9 years (from 3 yr. seedling)
Stiff , silvery-blue to bluish-green needles 1" long
Ordinary soil - average moisture
Full or half-day sun
Good for windbreaks/screens, planted 6′ apart



Douglas Fir

Fast grower!
Will reach 6′ in 7-8 years (starting with 3 yr. seedling)
Short soft blue-green needles
Bears cones at maturity (2 to 4" long)
Moist well-drained soil, NO heavy, wet, clay soils
Full sun
Good Christmas tree

 



Leyland Cypress

Rapidly growing landscape evergreen
Fine, feathery, soft-green pointed needles on flattened branches
Needles turn dark blue-green in maturity
Tolerates many soils, and should be grown in full sun
Grows 60'-70' with a 15'-25' spread


 



Norway Spruce

Fast Grower!
Dense, dark green needles - no longer than 1"
Average soil but prefers moist soil
Full or half-day sun
Good for windbreaks, planted 6′ apart
Good for shelters, dense branches
Branches droop gracefully - attractive ornamental tree

Buttonbush

Sweetly fragrant, produced in late spring and summer
Does best with moist soil and cannot tolerate drought
Flowers smell like honey
Attractive to bees, butterflies & hummingbirds
 



 



Dogwood, Gray

Flowers are a songbirds favorite
Leaves turn reddish in the fall

Grows well in full sun to partial shade
Grows equally well in all types of soil

 



Dogwood, Silky

Excellent choice for wildlife gardens
Prefers moist soil and partial sun
Highly tolerant of shade but not drought
Described as a perennial shrub
 

 



White Flowering Dogwood

Does best in moist, acidic soil in a site with some
    afternoon shade, but good morning sun
Has green foliage and white flowers with red fruits or seeds
Greatest bloom is in early Spring
Generally likes fertile, well drained but moist sites
Likes full sun
Earliest springtime bloomers, brightening the landscape
 

 



Lilac, Charles Joly, Double Red

Extremely fragrant, double red blooms which are produced
   dense clusters from late Spring to early Summer
Prefers full sun
Very hardy
 

 



Lilac, Monge, Single Dark Purple

Large, deep reddish-purple blooms that are fragrant and
   make wonderful cut flowers
The smooth, heart-shaped foliage is attractive through the
   season
Prefers full sun

Lilac, Sensation

Considered by many to be the most sensational of all hybrid
   lilacs
Part shade or full sun

Pin Oak

Tolerant of both wet feet and clay soil
Leaves change from dark green to deep scarlet in fall
Intolerant of shade
One of the faster growing oaks
 

 



River Birch

Fast growing, water loving deciduous tree
Bark of the tree is reddish-brown
Graceful tree
More pest resistant than other birches
Relatively care-free choice for landscaping
 

 

 



Tulip Poplar

Fast growing tree with leaves that resemble tulip flowers
Flowers turn golden yellow in fall
Stems are aromatic
Likes full sun

 

 



White Oak

Native to the US, it has its most active growth period in the spring and summer.
Fruit and seed production start in summer and continue until fall.
Long life span and slow growth rate.
At maturity it can reach 100 ft high.

 

 

 



Witch Hazel

Must have shrub for fragrance and color in the winter garden
Bunches of cream to yellow flowers
Prefers evenly moist, acid soil but can adapt to other soils
